Ramadan 2027 Dates: When to Plan and Book Umrah from the USA

Ramadan 2027 (1448 AH) is expected to begin on Monday, 8 February 2027, based on the Umm al-Qura calendar, and to end around 8 March 2027. The exact start depends on moon sighting, so it can move by a day, and communities in the USA may begin on a different day from Saudi Arabia.

Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to begin on Monday, 8 February 2027, according to the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia. As this was written in early October 2026, that is a little over four months away.

If you want to perform Umrah during Ramadan, that date is the one you work backwards from. Your passport, your visa and your flights all hang on it. This guide gives you the expected dates, explains why the start can shift by a day, and shows you how to plan around the three ten-day stretches of the month.

When Is Ramadan 2027?

Ramadan 2027 is expected to start on Monday, 8 February 2027 and end around Monday, 8 March 2027, with Eid al-Fitr expected on Tuesday, 9 March 2027. Those are the Saudi dates in the official Umm al-Qura annual reference, as read in October 2026.

Here is how the month looks if it begins on 8 February and runs for 29 days. The ten-day periods are our own arithmetic on that start date, so use them as a planning guide and not as an official calendar.

First ten days (days 1 to 10): about 8 to 17 February 2027

Middle ten days (days 11 to 20): about 18 to 27 February 2027

Final stretch (day 21 to the end of the month): about 28 February to 8 March 2027

Eid al-Fitr: expected on 9 March 2027

If the month turns out to have 30 days, the final stretch runs one day longer. Either way, these are expected dates. They are not fixed dates, and that difference matters when you book.

How Is the Start of Ramadan Decided?

Ramadan starts when the new lunar month begins, and different communities use different methods to decide which day that is. Saudi Arabia publishes the Umm al-Qura calendar in advance. Some communities in the USA follow astronomical calculation, while others wait for local moon sighting.

The Fiqh Council of North America is one example. It recognises astronomical calculation as “an acceptable Shar’i method” for the start of Ramadan. For Ramadan 2026 it announced Wednesday, 18 February 2026 as the first day. At the time of writing, in October 2026, it had not published an announcement for 2027.

Here is the catch. Your local masjid may begin on a different day from Saudi Arabia, and from the masjid in the next town. That is not a disagreement about the importance of the month. It is a question of method.

If your plans depend on the exact first day, follow your local masjid or community authority, and keep your travel dates flexible by a day where you can.

Why Many Pilgrims Choose Umrah in Ramadan

Many pilgrims choose Ramadan because of a hadith about the reward of Umrah in this month. In Sahih al-Bukhari 1782, Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked an Ansari woman what had stopped her from performing Hajj with him. He then told her to perform Umra when Ramadan comes, “for Umra in Ramadan is equal to Hajj (in reward),” or said something similar.

Read the wording carefully. The hadith speaks about reward. It leaves questions about how Umrah relates to the obligation of Hajj to qualified scholars, so if you have that question, ask one.

There is a practical cost to this choice too. Ramadan can be very busy at the Haramain, and many pilgrims aim for the final stretch, so you should expect crowds and strong demand for hotels and flights. If you are travelling with parents or young children, the first or middle ten days may give you more room, and it is worth deciding that with your family before you commit.

When to Plan and Book Umrah for Ramadan 2027

You should start planning as early as you can, because Ramadan departures typically fill first for the final stretch. Waiting until the moon is announced is too late for most travellers who need a visa, flights and hotels arranged.

Let’s work through a hypothetical. Suppose you want to arrive in Makkah around 26 February 2027, so that you are there for the start of the final stretch. Working backwards, you would want your travel documents checked first, then your visa application, then your flights and hotels, all settled well before that date. Each step depends on the one before it, which is why starting late tends to squeeze the visa step the most.

Al-Shafie Travels builds its Ramadan Umrah packages around the first, second and third Ashra. Ashra means “ten”, so the three names describe the first, second and third ten-day stretches of the month. We use them as period names for planning, nothing more.

What to Prepare Before You Travel

Your Umrah visa and permit go through official Saudi channels, and the rules change from time to time, so check them before you book. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s Nusuk Umrah service lets pilgrims from outside the Kingdom apply directly for an Umrah visa, and accredited agents in your own country are another route.

For current entry requirements, use the Ministry’s Umrah requirements page and not a forum or an old blog post. We have not quoted passport, health or fee figures here on purpose. Those are the details most likely to be out of date by the time you read this.

Plan Around the Moon, Not Only the Calendar

The best Ramadan plans hold the date loosely and the purpose firmly. You can book with confidence once you know the expected dates, as long as you leave room for the moon to move the start by a day.

FAQs

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday, 8 February 2027 in Saudi Arabia, according to the Umm al-Qura calendar. In the USA, your local masjid or community authority decides the day, and it may be the same day or a different one.

Not always. Communities use astronomical calculation or local moon sighting, and the two can land on different days. Follow the community you pray with.

Yes. Nusuk’s Umrah Journey page says Umrah can be performed at any time of year except the Hajj period, and Sahih al-Bukhari 1782 mentions Umrah in Ramadan directly.

Ashra means “ten”. In planning, the three Ashras are the first, second and third ten-day stretches of the month. They are period names, and we do not attach any hadith to them.

Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon. The Umm al-Qura calendar expects the 1448 month to run 29 days.
